# 6.6 - Create a veNEST Lock

**What you’re doing**\
Locking **NEST** mints a **veNEST NFT** (your governance/voting position).

#### **Steps**

1. Open **Create Lock**
   1. Standard is the automated Hype Engine Vault (HEV), or you can choose a manual lock
2. Enter amount of **NEST** to lock
3. Choose lock duration (up to the max allowed)
4. Confirm the transaction (HYPE gas required)
5. Check **Dashboard** to confirm your veNEST position appears

If you plan to vote manually, keep it as a **manual veNEST** position. If you want set-and-forget voting + MEGAHYPE route, you can deposit into **HEV** later (covered in the HEV tutorial).
